The Proposal Story

After four and a half wonderful years together, Ewan asked Lauren to marry him on Saturday 23rd May 2026

Despite Lauren dropping what she thought were *very obvious* hints over the years about the type of ring she'd love and exactly how she'd like to be proposed to, Ewan had his own plan all along. He spent countless hours searching for the perfect ring and waiting for the perfect moment. Thankfully, years earlier he'd had the foresight to secretly measure Lauren's ring finger using a cable tie and keep it safe, meaning there was no need to somehow measure it again without giving the surprise away. Future Ewan definitely deserved a thank you for that one!

Looking back, Lauren says Ewan was surprisingly relaxed all day. At the time, she thought nothing of it, but with hindsight he was dropping some pretty major hints about what the evening had in store… she just didn't spot a single one!

Ewan had planned one of our favourite kinds of date nights. We started with dinner at Ask Italian, one of our go-to places, where we spent the evening chatting, laughing and playing silly little games across the table. It's something we've always done before an escape room to get our brains warmed up. We're basically professionals by now!

Next came Soggy Bottom at Mindworks Escape Rooms in Worthing, an escape room we'd had our eye on for a while. Anyone who knows us knows how much we love escape rooms. It all started one year on Lauren's birthday, and since then we've become completely hooked, travelling all over the place tackling room after room as a team of two. (Not always the easiest way to do them, by the way!)

As always, we threw ourselves straight into the challenge, hunting down bakery ingredients, solving puzzle after puzzle and trying to uncover Shirley's secret cake ingredient. It was everything we'd hoped it would be, and thankfully we escaped with around eight or nine minutes to spare.

Then came the part Lauren never saw coming.

Like every escape room, our game host offered to take a photo of the successful team. Except this time, Ewan handed over his phone and, to what must have been a very confused host, asked if she could record a video instead.

What happened next is one of our favourite memories.

For perhaps the first time ever, Lauren was completely lost for words.

Escape rooms have become such a huge part of our relationship. They've always been about having fun together, solving problems side by side, playing to each other's strengths and helping one another through the tricky bits. Looking back, there couldn't have been a more perfect place for Ewan to ask such an important question.

And of course...

She said yes.
